This is my movie, “Goal” after I made it in Pivot Animation. This is before I had the chance to make edits and add to it in Windows Movie Maker.

I undertook a Work Experience placement at the Northern Bullants VFL Football Club from the 26th to the 30th of July. I was required to wear neat, formal wear (suit pants, button-up shirt and black polishable shoes). The Bullants are based out at Preston City Oval which was ideal for me because it was located only 200 metres down from the Preston train station. I started every morning at 10am and worked through to 4pm, which was very appropriate hours for me to work as it allowed me plenty of time to navigate to and from work easily and allow me to explore Melbourne and it’s shops.

Mrs Ballard aranged my Work Experience placement so all i was required to do prior to going to Melbourne was get in contact with my employer, Garry O’Sullivan. As the Bullants are alligned with the Carlton FC  I went out with Garry to Carlton on the Monday and Friday. Some of my roles at the Bullants were cleaning, putting away property and helping out on the computer, just to name a few.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at the Bullants and it has opened a whole new possible career path for me as I am currently considering applying for a traineeship with the Hampden Football League undertaking a certificate 3 in sport and recreation, majoring in administration.

We stayed at a Youth Hostel in Howard St, North Melbourne. The Hostel was located within easy walking distance to the Queen Victoria Market which was ideal for a little early morning shopping to fill in time before work.

My placement was easy to get to. It was only a 5 minute tram ride down Elizabeth St to Melbourne Central Station. From there it was half an hour by train along the Epping line to Preston. The train stopped regularly at Preston so it was very unstressful and easy for me to get to work on time. Directly across the road from my workplace, Preston City Oval, there was the Preston Market which was good to keep me entertained in the morning.

Our nights all consisted of fun and entertaining activities. We went Bowling, watched Toy Story 3, dined at the Sofitel and went swimming at MSAC. As well as this we would eat out each night. Wherever we had time throughout the day we would go shopping or just exploring to see what was around Melbourne.

I would highly recommend that next year’s Year 11’s go to Melbourne for Work Experience. It is a great opportunity to trial working in a situation like Melbourne, that you are unfamiliar with. It also teaches you a valuable lesson as to how to look after yourself. It was a great experience and one which I encourage all others to give a go.

The Hawkesdale College Year 11’s will be leaving for Melbourne Work Experience on the 18th of July. The trip is two weeks long with students either coming home for the middle weekend or staying with relatives in Melbourne. Students explore two different carrers paths and have the opportunity to navigate their own way to and from work. Their is also night activities most nights such as the Eureka Tower, Ice Skating and the Comic Lounge, just to name a few.

Unfortunately due to a footy injury to my knee and ankle on the weekend I will be unable to attend the first week but am hopeful of making it down to Melbourne to take up my second placement.

The first week I was to be going to West Footscray Primary School to undertake a possible career in PE teaching.

The second week I will be going to the Northern Bullants Football Club to explore the Administration side of a Football Club. This is a career I am interested in following in the future possibly. Sports Development in a career that I am ultimately chasing and this will hopefully, if I’m lucky, lead to possible contacts who can help me in my attempt to become a Sports Development Officer for the AFL.

We need to navigate our own way to and from work. This is a daunting task and we are using Metlink to help us with timetables and ultimately help us plan the journey through their Journey Planner service.

The Year 8’s at my school designed a Cyber Safety poll, here are some of the results.

The Socceroos are curently training in South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The tournament is being held from the 11th of June til the 11th of July. Click here to view the match schedule. The Australian squad is the undoubted under dogs, a tag which they enjoy. This is an exciting time for Australian Soccer, a sport which, until last World Cup was relatively unknown in Australia. Bad luck cost the Aussies last time so now it is a chance to see if they can better their efforts from 2006.

On Tuesday the 13th of April, 2010 our Year 11 ITC class connected with a group from Malaysia. We first logged on to Elluminate and got that up and running before communicating with the Malaysian class on Skype. We had a few minor connection difficulties before beginning. The Malaysian internet connection was quite slow and as a result made the whole process slow. After completing our skype we talked to eachother in Elluminate, asking eachother questions. Sadly the bell rang and we had to farewell our new found Malaysian ITC buddies.

I believe it was an awesome oppurtunity to communicate other people who come from a totally different background and beliefs to us. We live in a multi-cultural world and any opportunity to communicate with those whom are different is a great and worthwhile  activity, one worth doing again.
